Loraine Oman-Ganes is a clinical geneticist, pediatrician, and insurance physician who is Medical Vice President at Gen Re. Previously, she held several leadership roles including Chief Medical Director of Legal & General America, Global Chief Medical Director of Sun Life (SL), and Chief Medical Director of RBC Insurance. She created and led the Sun Life Global Medical Team (GMT), comprising physicians in Hong Kong, Manhattan, Montreal, and Toronto. She completed her B.Sc. (Biology), M.D. and pediatric residency at the University of Saskatchewan, and her fellowship in Clinical Genetics at the University of Michigan. Her diverse clinical genetics expertise includes academic work (New York Medical College, Westchester County Medical Center, NY), hospital, community, and executive clinic-based practice.
Her diverse, global insurance medicine expertise includes medical support for Underwriting, Claims and Product development for all Life and Living Benefits products (including Disability, Critical illness, Long Term Care, Stop Loss and Hospital insurance), Innovation, Data Analytics, Automated Underwriting, Risk Management, Actuarial, Crisis Management and Pandemic Planning, Legal/Public Relations, and Longevity research. Her insurance industry activities have included: past President and past Scientific Chair- CLIMOA (Canadian Life Insurance Medical Officers’ Association) and membership in several industry committees including the AAIM Professional and Public Relations, ACLI’s Risk Classification, and SOA Underwriting Innovation Symposium Planning Committees.

Her passions include inspiring collaboration between diverse groups, and continuous improvement. She has delivered numerous interactive presentations in North America and Asia for professionals and the public. She was the Chair of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) Information and Education committee, a board member of the Genetic Alliance, head judge for six years for the Biotechnology Institute’s Genzyme Life Technologies Biotech Educator Award, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB). She is passionate in her global commitment to mentorship, education, and the belief that genetics can be used as a tool to enhance literacy and health.
